Synopsis:

"Star Trek Nemesis" was the tenth of the classic Star Trek movies and the last involving the crew from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" series. It was widely considered a disappointing last adventure for the crew, flawed with some unnecessary moments that didn´t feel Star Trek. The finished product featured lots of redundant dialogue, weak humour and a forced commercial appeal which was added mainly in detriment of character moments. For this edit I´ve tried to remove those awful moments while keeping everything that works in the Theatrical Version. There are lots of small changes that don't make much difference individually but I think they all work together to give the film some better pace and the restored scenes give it some fresh air. Those scenes were removed for the Theatrical Version in order to make the movie more action-focused and less "Trek" in order to make it more commercially appealing. It obviously didn't work as the movie dropped on the Box Office. Now some of the action is edited out but I've kept all those awesome Enterprise shots and battle scenes. So this is not an attempt to change the general tone of the film or to remove its story but rather to reverse those bad editing decisions and recover that "Star Trek feel". I called this particular cut "Standard Version" as I´m planning to do an "Extended Cut" with more deleted scenes and a few more changes included.

Intentions:

It all started when I watched a YouTube video of one of the deleted scenes and I simply loved it. The quality was really bad, but the magic of that scene called "Château Picard" encouraged me to make some research on the deleted scenes and ten it all started. This "definitive" version started when the new 4K remastered disc came in and I had hopes they would include better quality versions of the deleted scenes, only to find out they had included the same very low quality transfers. So I realized those scenes might never come out in better quality and decided to make the best possible version with the resources I had. The deleted scenes have been trough a long upgrading process consisting on: Deinterlacing, one or few waves of Upscaling, Color Correction, Cleaning out of spots and artifacts and Aspect Ratio Correction. Some of them have also needed complex Green Screen work and some Rotoscoping, and brand new music true to the amazing Jerry Goldsmith score has been added in some cases. There is also a brand new CGI shot included. I did use the latest remastered BluRay edition as source and kept the multichannel audio tracks.

Change List:

Banding was removed from the Paramount Logo scene and from the shot of Romulus at the start of the movie. This issue was present in all Home Video releases, including the one used as source for this edit (2023 Remastered BluRay). “Chateau Picard” deleted scene included right after the Enterprise flyby. Argo humoristic dialogue after landing removed. Worf being scared of B-4 hand suddenly appearing partially edited out. Both Data assessment “It appears to be a robotic arm” and Worf joking about it were removed. Argo chase scene removed. Crusher line saying to B-4 head “You have nicer eyes” removed. ”Federation Protocols” scene has been included as an extension to the meeting scene about Shinzon and Remans. ”Troi/Picard After Meeting Shinzon” scene added after “Donatra observing Shinzon Illness” and before “B-4 Accessing Computer” scenes. “Alternate Violation” / “Turbolift Violation” scene replacing the theatrical violation scene. Shinzon's line “I was lonely” when he visits abducted Picard removed. Viceroy killing reman guard removed. Removed dialogue during the escape from the Scimitar: DATA “Move, puny human animal.” PICARD: “A bit less florid, Data.” Removed a short scene in the Scimitar right after Picard´s monologue in the Battle Stations scene. That scene involved Shinzon and Viceroy talking about the former deteriorating condition. Previous Enterprise flyby was also removed. Some of Shinzon´s lines during the space battle have been removed: “Can you learn to see in the dark, Captain?” First part of the Viceroy-Riker fight after Riker enters the corridor is removed. Removed Riker and Viceroy walking around after the Enterprise bridge attack. Viceroy “jump” during the fight has been removed. Slow motion removed from Viceroy´s fall. Added “Three Months Later” card to the first Enterprise shot in drydock. ”Alternate Ending” scene included after Picard and B-4 scene. Second Enterprise shot in drydock replaced by a new “flyby to warp” ending shot. End Credits slightly speeded up. Edit Credits added after the End Credits.

Other Sources:

I did use a small part of a musical theme from "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" for the Edit Credits which appear at the end of the movie. That theme is "Overture (long version)" which can be found on "STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE: LIMITED EDITION (3-CD SET)" by La-La Land Records (Item Number LLLCD1207). Music for the deleted scenes was produced by Chris Adams, AKA "Hardwire", inspired by the actual movie soundtrack and using the "Star Trek" theme by Alexander Courage and themes created by Jerry Goldsmith for the movie soundtrack.

Special Thanks:

I can only say thank you to everyone who have supported this project since the very first post on Reddit, Original Trilogy or The Trek BBS. Special thanks to Chris Adams, AKA "Hardwire" who did the score for the new scenes and NMPhoto37, who helped with Color Grading, AR Adjustment and Film Grain.
