Synopsis:

I love the hilarious spoof 80s Horror/Sci-Fi/Action TV show 'Garth Marengi's Darkplace' but I always wondered what it would be like to view it without any of the mock interviews which make up a quarter, to a third, of the runtime. Then I also thought it would be nice to make a movie-length edit of the remaining material.

Intentions:

To cut together all the non-interview material from the 6 episodes into one long narrative. I wanted to make the joins as seemless as possible without removing large parts of the show (As it's all comedy gold) but let's be honest, it's still fairly episodic. Which is why I called this edit "Tales From The Hellmouth" in a nod to similar anthology horror films. I've presented this as if it was a lost 16mm film version of 'Darkplace'. Maybe Producer Dean Learner cut the TV episodes into a movie to show in one of his "Gentleman's Cinemas", in an effort to squeeze a few more quid out his investment. To further this fun idea, I've added a cinema style introduction as if it was a low-rent 1980s British cinema release. Plus there are trailers, previews, adverts, an intermission and I've even created a little tribute to a certain infamous Peter Cushing Horror movie, which I call "The Darkplace Break".

Change List:

General Changes: - Added "Film Damage" throughout - Added crackles and other film soundFX at various points but used sparingly - Added film-grain - Added extra transition SoundFX and other moments - Added various trailers and clips - Removed all but one of the episode titles and Garth introductions - Removed all mock-interview footage - Removed or cropped-out all onscreen titles - Removed all advert-break intros and outros - Removed some but not all, of Dagless' voiceover prologues and epilogues. Also some have been trimmed Specific Changes: - Added FE.org and TM2YC titlecards - Added vintage "Coming Soon" intro - Added trailer for 'Garth Marengi's Bitch Killer'. I had to painstakingly remove the laughter track and re-format it shot-by-shot in 4:3, using panning & scanning - Added shortened trailer for 'Pising in the Driving Seat' - Added "Coming soon to VHS" titlecard to end of Pising segment - Added vintage "Pearl & Dean" titlecard - Added a Darkplace vintage looking BBFC X-Certificate - Added "Tales From The Hellmouth" subtitle to the original Darkplace titlecard - Added custom "Darkplace Break" blending stills and slowmo shots from Darkplace, with hand animated graphics, soundFX from 'The Beat Must Die', looped music from King Diamond and heavily treated voiceover from myself - Added Intermission intro and outro, plus trailers - Added trailer for "Jenny" toothpaste - Added a warning about the "Smoking Ghost" - Added "The Taste of India" advert - Reworked all 6 closing title sequences into one set to Todd River's "One Track Lover" - Added "Special Preview" titlecard - Added preview of "War of the Wasps" re-formated shot-by-shot in 4:3, using panning & scanning - Added film-burn coda.

Additional Notes:

- I wanted to preserve as much of the material as possible, while also trying to make this into one semi-seemless whole. So I've hopefully struck the right balance. - The material has been presented as a vintage Grindhouse movie, but not slavishly. So I've kept obviously televisual things like the superbly cheesy opening titles, monologues and establishing shots.
