Synopsis:
The newest rendition of The Grinch has some excellent animation, but as with a lot of modern film it strays away from the original fantasy and leans too hard into realistic details. This edit excises those bits to return the story to its original form, where the only Grinchy motivation was his heart being two sizes too small, rather than being bullied as a child by the Who children, and various other similar trims. To me this new animation of the Grinch sometimes came off as a bit mean or cruel, and I didn't like that - I wanted him to be grumpy and sarcastic, perhaps unaware of his own selfishness, but not a socially damaged or vindictive character. A lot of the slapstick also goes out the window too, making it more heartfelt and less of a comedy. After all the cuts it's actually around the same length as the original 1966 cartoon as well.
