Our Story

The Journey of Movies Remastered: From Solo Passion Project to Thriving Community

Movies Remastered began as a solo endeavor by Lee Masters, known as MR, a passionate faneditor who initially created projects for his own enjoyment. MR's introduction to fanediting came from watching The Hobbit: The Tolkien Edit by TolkienEditor, which condensed three films he wanted to love but couldn't into a four-and-a-half-hour, watchable adventure. This transformative experience showcased the potential of fanediting.

He was further inspired by the work on Bateman Begins: An American Psycho by  Adabisi, his first exposure to fanmixing, which sparked his creativity with the idea of fusing multiple movies into one storyline. Additionally, MR was captivated by the incredible work on Cosmogony by The Man Behind The Mask, which combined over 20 forms of entertainment to tell a story of humanity and nature, from the creation of life to the future of every being on Earth.

The final catalyst was Adywan's Star Wars - Episode IV: 2004 Special Edition Revisited. Adywan's meticulous attention to detail and change lists resonated with MR and gave him the confidence to share his work with the public.

MR’s first projects were Solo: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens. The journey took an unexpected turn when his fanediting tutorials on YouTube, particularly his breakdown videos on "Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker," renamed "Star Wars Episode IX: The Last Hope," gained popularity. This newfound attention inspired many newcomers to delve into the art of fanediting.

Movies Remastered's growing influence led MR to an invitation to join originaltrilogy.com, marking a significant milestone in his journey. Soon after, he became part of the team working on Hal9000's edit of the same movie, renamed "Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise Of Skywalker: Ascendant." The collaboration on "The Ascendant Cut" spanned over a year during the lockdowns. MR fondly recalls this period, working with Hal9000 and over 200 other faneditors and contributors.

During this time, MR shared many scenes from "The Last Hope" and helped create incredible, unique VFX shots by collaborating with numerous talented editors on scenes such as the crackling saber, D-0's squeaky wheel, and the puppet show at the Aki Aki festival on Pasaana. Contributors included Poppasketti, Rogue Leader, Sherlock Potter, Chase Adams, Octorox, Burbin, Idir_hh, Jonh, Skenera, Snooker, Sir Ridley, Dominic Cobb, Kewlfish, Luka Frik, Axlanian, LILIAN02230, and many more. Our collective effort and creativity made the project a remarkable experience and a milestone for the fanediting community.

After the release of Hal9000s V2 of "The Ascendant," MR found himself inundated with requests for guidance from newer editors. Recognizing the need for a dedicated space for faneditors to connect and learn, he created the MR Discord, with significant help from Kegemd. Together, they added features like Watch Party rooms and Voice Chat rooms for faneditors to interact live with their audience, along with roles to reward those who contribute most to the community. Additionally, MR Reddit was established, forming a thriving community of like-minded enthusiasts.

In these spaces, fans of various genres, franchises, movies, and TV shows come together to discuss, analyze, and provide continuous support and feedback on future fanedits. The journey of Movies Remastered, from a solo passion project to a vibrant community, stands as a testament to the power of creativity, collaboration, and shared enthusiasm.

To recognize outstanding work, we will offer various awards such as Fanedit of the Month, VFX Awards for additional scenes, Collaboration Awards for team efforts, and our highest honor, the Gold Award for outstanding perfection.
