Synopsis:

Karate master Mr. Miyagi (Noriyuki "Pat" Morita) goes to Boston to attend a military reunion. There, he visits with Louisa (Constance Towers), the widow of his former commander, and meets her granddaughter, Julie (Hilary Swank). Julie's parents were recently killed in a car accident, and she is still reeling from the loss. When Julie surprises Miyagi with her knowledge of karate, he takes her to a Buddhist monastery for training and to help her come to terms with her angst.

Intentions:

The purpose of this fan edit is to give the movie a slightly more serious tone and enhance the overall pace, similar to the director's cut of Rocky IV. The fight scenes have been re-edited with new sound effects giving the fights a little more impact. Julie (Hilary Swank) now looks more like a competent fighter than in the original cut with many of her awkward stance and punches been removed. Unlike Million Dollar Baby and The Hunt, Swank clearly had little training prior to shooting this movie. Mr. Miyagi (Noriyuki "Pat" Morita) alongside Michael Ironside now move faster in their fight scenes. Many of the forced exposition with Julie's grandmother and the scenes with the Japanese monks doing silly things like dancing to The Cranberries' Dreams and bowling contest have been removed.

Change List:

Changes/Additions: - the movie is now called The Karate Kid Part IV in the opening title card during the band march. - removed Julie saying hi to Mr. Miyagi. - trimmed Julie and her grandmother's conversation in the kitchen. - removed the forced exposition of Julie explaining in detail about her parents' death to her grandmother. - trimmed the scene with Julie escaping from the cops. - cranked up Julie's running speed while running away from the cops. - removed the scene with the cop slowing down and out breath while chasing Julie. - trimmed Julie and her grandmother's conversation at the staircase of their home. - removed Julie's grandmother calling her name before Julie slams the door. - removed the overlong hallway scene at school introducing Ned and his friends. - re-edited Colonel Dugan's fight scene with the students including sound effects replacement for the hits and throws. - cranked up certain parts of Michael Ironside's moves making him look more of a formidable villain. - cranked up the speed of Colonel Dugan punching Eric. - trimmed a few frames of Julie jumping on top of the oncoming car. - removed Julie's lines complaining to Mr. Miyagi nagging like her grandmother. - trimmed Julie escaping from Ned by the stairway. She only hits Ned with bag once before hitting the fire alarm. - removed Ned saying "You're real pretty in the moonlight, but this is nice." when he grabs Julie by the stairway. - re-edited and cranked up the speed of Miyagi's fight scene with the rednecks at the gas station with sound effects. Bone cracking sound can be heard whenever Mr. Miyagi twist someone's arm or wrist. - removed the scene with Julie martial dancing at night to The Cranberries's Dreams with the monks joining in. - trimmed and re-edited Julie's training montage at the monastery.
