Synopsis:

This re-edit of Dial of Destiny changes the plot in a way that matches more closely to the original 3 films.

Intentions:

I intended to bring a satisfying conclusion to Indy's story by removing over a half hour of the film to make something watchable for audiences.

Change List:

The Paramount logo fades into Berlin in 1944, as a homage to the classics. Color correction has been done to brighten up the film and make it easier to watch, as well as nicer to look at. The actors' names are shown at the bottom of the screen after the title shows as a homage to the classics. Added in "Germany, 1944" as a homage to the classics. German translation and language has been added in for some areas of the film so that we have Indy understand and speak German. Harrison Ford's voice has been modified with AI at some points to make him sound closer to how he did in the 80s. The flashback is restructured to be more accurate to how it historically happened. With Hitler already having the fake lance in his inventory, and the Nazis never learning it WAS a fake. The Dial is removed from the flashback, so that it follows the formula of the quest object not being relevant til LATER in the film. The entirety of "old Indy is old" opening scene after the flashback is cut. The divorce subplot is gone. Marion and Indy had such a beautiful marriage at the end of Crystal Skull, I hate when that stuff gets retconned. So the explanation is that he's busy teaching in college. Him retiring will allow him to go back to his normal life, to be with Marion and Mutt, who did not die. Helena is not in the classroom scene, and Indy does not discuss the Dial, because once again, like the classic films, the quest object is never relevant til AFTER all this. The murder subplot is gone. The Nazi sympathizers ARE actually undercover as CIA. The parade has been rescored with different music. The comedic "Helena interrupts Indy meeting with his rival" moments are gone. We lose the tension if she's always making a joke out of a serious situation. "I told them to shoot you" is removed. 1. Because Indy knows Arabic, he can tell them to back off himself. 2. She looks really insensitive putting her godfather's life on the line. Helena tries to help save Renaldo's life by stalling Voller long enough to ignite the dynamite, but it ends the same with Renaldo dying anyway. Helena does NOT have an insensitive moment of laughing after Indy's best friend dies. I've restructured her to actually be a better character over the course of the film. Indy is shot in the shoulder, not the heart. Allowing plausibility that he survived as long as he did. "You're a German, Voller" is cut down to "You're a German", as Indy isn't supposed to know Voller's name. Indy's continental drift tangent is removed. There's a saying never to interrupt your enemy when they're being a fool, that's exactly what I re-edited him to be like. Rescored the death scene to have the Opening the Ark music, adding a bit more to what was originally a boring and uninteresting death. Indy goes back home WILLINGLY, and is greeted by Sallah instead of Marion, since the divorce is not in the re-cut. The credits have been changed to be a bit more like the credits of the classic films, as a homage to them.
