Synopsis:

After years of fighting crime as the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Peter Parker's life is changing for the better, with adoring fans and a future fiance in Mary-Jane Watson. However, after new evidence surrounding the tragic murder of his Uncle Ben comes to light, Peter starts to spiral, driving a wedge between him and MJ. When his anger rises to the surface, he finds himself bonding with a strange alien suit, which gives him power like never before, but also heightens his aggression and aims to push his relationships to their breaking point. Will Peter fight the darkness, or will he become a shadow of his former self?

Intentions:

On my most recent rewatch, I found that the biggest issue this movie has is time. There is a lot that happens in so little time, so i thought it would be a good idea to space out some scenes and give attention back where it was needed. I took the liberty of adding scenes from the editor’s cut to slightly improve the characters, moved a few scenes around, cut out others, and tried to maintain focus on Peter and MJ for most of the movie, while also changing the weakest subplot of the film into a genuine plot twist.

Sterling Edits (NEW) logo added, Venom screech added with inky black transition, along with flashes of the symbiote suit emblem Opening sequence changed to black and white - Film grain also added to replicate the flashback sequences later in the film Removed Peter’s confrontation with Harry - I wanted to have Harry be more of a passive player in the opening, and keep him from reacting with Peter and MJ directly Removed “...and those are from Harry” bit, and any mention of him (once again, keeping him as a passive observer) Cut out Harry’s Goblin gas scene - The New Goblin reveal will be saved for when he unmasks in front of Peter Moved Flint Marko chase to a later point after Peter and MJ visit a recovered Harry - This keeps the focus on the main three for much longer Removed Harry saying: “My father.. He died, right?” and the “my best friends” line, scene now cuts after Peter and MJ walk away Venom symbiote clip removed, now cuts from MJ’s reaction to Peter leaving Moved the “birth of Sandman” sequence to after Peter leaves the apartment Cut to the crane sequence, when the police cars pull up Removed Peter’s “good riddance” line - Now he says nothing and just gives a cold stare Cut Peter’s “emo hair” scene Added “Venom in the mirror” sequence from the Editor’s Cut - Added Venom jumpscare from when Eddie transforms - Flashes of white and monochrome effect also added Cut MJ kissing Harry shorter, so now MJ’s “breakup” later on is actually legit, and not an act forced on her by Harry Removed Harry’s memories flooding back - This version of Harry is playing the long game, using the “memory loss” to drive a wedge through Peter and MJ’s relationship, using his father’s “attack his heart” technique -Throughout the film, there are glimpses of what’s actually going on with Harry (not having a scar, still has intense speed and reflexes, crazy eyes), and I want to take what’s there and change it into a genuine twist MJ breakup scene is now an actual breakup - Harry is only there to watch them split apart MJ walking past him is cut Harry threatening MJ is removed, cuts after Peter’s voicemail Peter’s entrance into Harry’s mansion is taken from the Editor’s cut, the original cut comes in after the “..that taste..” line - Shows that Peter knew it was a trick, and has been waiting for the chance to hurt him Peter winding up his punch is removed, now he wastes no time trying to get his hands on Harry Removed Sandman saying “Penny” when looking at the locket - The visual is already enough to show he’s still doing this for her Peter’s “now dig on this” line removed, and some exaggerated dance moves removed - Keeps the intention of the dance clear, but just makes the scene more sensual in nature Added low pitch to Venom’s voice to differentiate him from Eddie Bernard’s confession is still intact, but cuts to the “winter photo” scene in the Editor’s Cut (after the “as your friends love you” line from Bernard) to give Harry that extra push Added low pitch to Eddie’s “it makes me happy” line, to show how far he’s fallen, and that him and Venom are now one “Sand castle” scene added after Harry’s funeral - Instead of being a redundant reminder of Sandman’s motivation, it’s now treated as a touching scene of him still watching over his daughter after all he’s done MJ’s “I’m Through With Love” added after “Sand castle” scene Hoobastank “The Reason” added to credits - I believe it fits thematically with Peter becoming a better person after the hurt he caused his friends while under the symbiote’s influence
