Synopsis:
In the Director's words: "The one thing I wanted to achieve was not only a specific portrait of the 'ups and down, the highs and lows' of the shared-house experience but a reflection of the social environment that spawns each character in the first place."
The original film is based on a novel. The film's central character is Danny (Noah Taylor), a wannabe writer, who takes the place of the author Birmingham in the original screenplay.
Intentions:
While listening to the musical artist Amelia Warner and thinking about wanting to watch He Died with a Felafel in His Hand again, I thought of my favourite line from it mixed with the music and the idea for this edit popped into my mind. The song in particular is "On This Side". The rest of the songs are still favourites though. This is a short musical journey with lines from the films as "lyrics".
Change List:
Once the idea for this edit came to me I thought about how to make the story all about Noah and Romane's characters. it's funny and sad and ironic. I made it black & white and that makes it more melodramatic and ironic, which are all elements of the film and edit already.
Cuts and Additions:
I cut everything except for 3 partial scenes that star Noah and Romane's characters. To tell more of their story would mean bringing more characters in and I didn't want to do that.
I added audio foley of:
record crackle, photocopier, office room ambience, typewriter, crickets, night ambience, woman giggling, cigarette lighter, cigarette burn, exhale breath, car pass 1, car horn, car pass 2, rain sound 1, rain sound 2, thunder, city streets ambience, wind 1, wind 2, nose sniffle, water splash.
I added video effects of:
film burns, grain, scratches, dust particles, smoke
Additional Notes:
Starring: Noah Taylor & Romane Bohringer - with Brett Stewart as Flip
