Synopsis:

A story about a mentor and an understudy, a Jedi and Mandalorian, trying to find their friend, but rekindling their own friendship in the process. An 8 episode series becomes 2 feature length films that respect the characters and attempt to respect Star Wars lore in various ways.

Intentions:

The intent is to try and refocus the story onto the characters of Ahsoka and Sabine, trying to keep them as true to their core as possible. So let's take Ahsoka forwards instead of having her dwelling on events that happened thirty years ago, and let's have Sabine embrace her Mandalorian heritage. All references of Sabine learning to become a Jedi have been removed. Throughout Star Wars history it has been made clear that some people have talent with the force and others don't. You don't suddenly become a powerful Jedi Knight because you decided you were ready for it. Especially if you are a born and bred Mandalorian. Yes there has been one Mandalorian Jedi but it was made very clear, repeatedly, that Sabine is the LEAST suitable candidate for force sensitivity. Thrawn has been reshaped and brought back in line with his origins. I don't know what the writers were smoking but the Thrawn in the official version is unhinged. He is built up as being this amazing strategist but then his actions are literally insane. He flip flopps all over the place and seems like he doesn't have a clue about anything. The build up to him via expositional dialogue is reduced and his on screen presence is changed to show him being cool and collected and giving him as much of an imposing presence as possible. Morgan is rounded out to be a more satisfying character, no longer leaning on some nonsensical lineage, but actually taking powerful actions and earning a position only to have it taken away. She doesn't look at all like a nightsister and there is no explanation for that, so we are left to assume that she was an outcast. she is used and abused as a tool by every single character. by removing references to her being dathomiri, she can be viewed as a mysterious woman who has developed some incredible skills and abilities and is slightly betrayed by Thrawn at the end. In order to focus on the primary characters, it's necessary to heftily reduce General Hera Sindulla's story threads. The new republic is therefore largely absent and only present to drive the main story forwards. Since Baylan won't be appearing again, (RIP Ray Stevenson) his story elements have been reduced somewhat. Enough remains so as to not make him a two-dimensional character, but not enough so that it leaves a massive loose thread. Generally, this edit seeks to reduce things that don't make sense or poorly written and refocus the characters and treat them with care and respect.

Change List:

Colour graded throughout for mood and vibe and to accentuate moments. Accentuated the lightsabers brightness and colour throughout. Removed 'opening crawl.' Inserted Ahsoka entering the temple, solving puzzles, and finding the map. Reduced the fallen Jedi shuttle approach. Reduced shuttle landing sequence. Transitioned from Morgan to Ahsoka exiting the temple. Cut HK droid conversation and heavily edited fight for vastly increased pacing. Slightly reduced conversation with Huyang, removing padawan references. Removed T6 approach, landing, and meeting Hera in the hangar. Transitioned straight from radio call to the strategy table/war room. Reduced expository dialogue between Ahsoka and Hera about Thrawn and Ezra, the fact the map is locked, etc. Inserted shortened scene of Morgan et al. at the exploded temple ruins, removing Morgan claiming they were her ancestors. Cut Ryder claiming that Sabine was about to give a speech. Removed Sabine 'escaping' from security because she didn't want to give a speech as if she is a prisoner. Removed Sabine returning home, feeding the cat, and watching the holomessage. Removed Morgan et al. temple scene for earlier insertion. Transitioned from Ryder's speech to Sabine waking up calling Ezra's name scene. Colour graded the following scenes to sunset, so it doesn't seem like Ahsoka takes ages to follow Sabine later on. Slightly compressed Ahsoka/Sabine reunion scene by her ship. Cut second half of conversation at the table to remove Jedi training references. Cut Sabine asking if she can take the map and Ahsoka saying no. Removed scene with Ahsoka complaining to Hera about Sabine. Slight edits to Sabine studying the map so it feels more like a work montage. Edited Shin confrontation so she doesn't rush to take her lightsaber out because Sabine is not a threat. They do not trade blows. Lightsaber fight is entirely cut. Sabine does not get stabbed. Ahsoka arrives promptly. Sabine is flailing about trying to defend against Shin. Cut end credits of episode 1 and open titles of episode 2. Reduced Sabine hospital waking scene for pace. Cut Ahsoka walking out while scolding Sabine. Removed Shin and Baylan arriving on Seatos for later insertion. Reduced Ahsoka investigating Sabine's tower. Cut droid head overheating, simplifying the scene drastically. Cut Sabine talking with Hera after Ahsoka leaves. Inserted Shin and Baylan arriving on Seatos, adding a reversed shot of Morgan's shuttle taking off/landing to bridge the scenes. Trimmed bits of Morgan, Shin, and Baylan talking about Thrawn and Peridea. Trimmed arrival on Corellia. Removed Ahsoka and Hera complaining about Sabine on Corellia. Reduced Sabine recovery scene, hiding her wound and removing Jedi training references. Edited control room scene to reduce the arbitrary disrespect aimed at Hera. Removed Ahsoka fighting the Inquisitor; she just chases it. Reduced Hera flying after the hyperdrive for increased pace. Removed scene wrapping up Corellia; it's actually not necessary. Cut end credits of episode 2 and open titles of episode 3. Cut blindfolded training, simply retaining basic sword training sequence. Removed Hera talking to the Senate in the war room and Jaycen scene. Removed Ahsoka and Sabine at the table, force pull scene. Reduced T6 approach towards the Eye of Scion under heavy fire. Reduced their descent onto Seatos for increased pace. Inserted scene of Baylan sending Shin into the forest after Huyang shows the Eye of Scion, replacing the one where he sends droids. Cut end credits of episode 3 and open titles of episode 4. Removed scene of Baylan sending Shin for earlier insertion. Cut Huyang shouting for help and his voice muffled by a robot hand; I'm pretty sure that wouldn't work and it makes him seem needlessly weak. Removed scene of Hera stealing ship and fighters. Many edits to forest fight scene to have Sabine focus on her Mandalorian abilities and to have Ahsoka defeat the Inquisitor easily. Slightly reduced Ahsoka/Baylan fight, removing the lame rock throw and using camera moves to lend dynamism to some weaker choreography. Cut Baylan's reference to Anakin. Reframed various shots during Baylan's talk with Sabine to underscore her struggle. Removed conversation between Hera and Huyang. Removed all interior shots of the Ghost so that Jaycen is not seen until his new introduction down on the planet. Replaced shots of ocean and Ahsoka in space between worlds with simple long shots of the forest to finish the first movie. Credits of episode 4 are retained for the end of Part 1. Episode 5 opening logos retained for Part 2. Reduced introduction to start with the ocean. Cut Hera getting freaked out by Huyang. Removed Ahsoka meeting Anakin in space between worlds (hint: Anakin is dead and never came here when he was alive; we'd know). Removed Hera hearing lightsabers. Removed the somehow alive Anakin sending Ahsoka into magical memory land. Cut Huyang and Hera chatting about her going AWOL and about Anakin. Removed Ahsoka fighting Anakin some more. As Ahsoka floats in the water, inserted constructed dream sequence of Ahsoka's fight with Baylan with flashes of Sabine. Cut Ahsoka waking on the ramp as she is rescued and Jaycen rejoicing as the ship returns. Cut Ahsoka standing up and talking to Huyang in the ship; she wakes up and we cut right to her exiting the ship. Cut Ahsoka suggesting Sabine could have "left an impression" on the map and extended "sensing" sequence. Cut Carson talking about the fleet coming and reduced following shots for pace. Reduced Hera arguing with Mon Mothma. Many edits to significantly reduce starwhale sequence. Removed Carson's conversation with the fleet; moved fleet's arrival later. Cut end credits of Episode 5 and open titles of Episode 6. Removed Ahsoka and Huyang chatting inside starwhale. Cut Morgan questioning Baylan on his promise to Sabine. Cut Morgan claiming to be descended from the Nightsisters. Reduced landing sequence. Removed the witches freaking out about Sabine, putting her in jail. Removed Baylan and Shin long ruminations about Jedi stuff. Removed Sabine in jail trying to pretend to be a Jedi. Cut the witches crying to Thrawn about Sabine. Removed Sabine treating the wolf as if it is intelligent and abandoned her on purpose; instead, she treats it with compassion. Reduced the meeting with hermit people and focused their behavior to suggest they were waiting here for Sabine. Reduced Sabine's journey to their settlement, bringing the appearance of Ezra much sooner. Cut dialogue so Sabine hugs Ezra much sooner. Cut Thrawn looking panicked at the news of Ahsoka. Cut Thrawn babbling about killing starwhales with prejudice and using dark magic. Cut end credits of Episode 6 and open titles of Episode 7. Removed Hera's hearing. Removed Ahsoka training sequence. Reduced minefield sequence for pacing. Cut Thrawn telling the fighters not to pursue Ahsoka; he just says "very good" when told they have engaged. Cut Morgan handing Thrawn information about Ahsoka; it's better not to suggest the Grand Admiral doesn't already know about her. Cut Morgan questioning Thrawn's decisions, as he no longer makes any nonsensical decisions. Removed debris field flight sequence. Cut Sabine telling Ezra she is Ahsoka's apprentice. Removed Thrawn asking witches to find Ahsoka in the debris field. Removed Ahsoka psychic communication with Sabine. Removed firing on debris field and Ahsoka flying out of it. Cut Baylan telling Shin to report to Thrawn. Removed Thrawn sending troops to attack Sabine; the troops that arrive can be assumed to have followed Ahsoka. Removed chase scene with marauders and hermit shell house cars. Removed Baylan waiting to fight Ahsoka as it doesn't make sense why would he? Cut Ahsoka jumping out to fight Baylan as it doesn't make sense why would she? Cut Ezra refusing his lightsaber because it doesn't make sense why would he? It just seems Sabine forgot to give it to him yet. Extensive edits of fight with marauders to have Ahsoka's flying match up with her jumping out and landing within the center of that fight. It's very complicated. Inserted a constructed sequence of Huyang flying the T6, it colliding with TIE fighters and crashing during the marauder fight. Removed Thrawn and Morgan observing the marauder fight because it has not been his concern this whole time. Cut Shin riding off on her wolf. Since Ahsoka did not fight Baylan, she did not steal his wolf, so we need Shin's to remain. Cut end credits of Episode 7 and open titles of Episode 8. Inserted short wolf riding sequence immediately to keep pace. Cut the conjuring of "the sword of Talsin"; let's allow Morgan to have a regular sword and imbue it with power; let's allow her at least a little dignity. Removed the very slow traveling with the hermit people as it is absolutely crazy; they should be racing to get back. Removed Ezra building a new lightsaber. He doesn't need a new one, and kyber crystals don't grow on trees. Removed Sabine/Ahsoka discussion on the very slow-moving ship. Removed TIE fighter attack; Thrawn only recently withdrew his forces; is he unhinged? Removed wolf riding sequence for earlier insertion. Removed Thrawn obsessing over Ahsoka's position; he already demonstrated that he's not too worried. Cut Sabine "helping" to open the door. Cut all shots of Sabine using a lightsaber. Recolored Ezra's lightsaber from blue to green. Reduced stair climbing sequences for pace and to remove Sabine using a lightsaber. Edited fight with death troopers right at the top so Sabine kills hers by shooting him in the face. Cut Sabine using Force push on Ezra. Cut any shots that show Sabine using lightsaber laser deflection. Removed final camping scene with Ahsoka looking out wistfully after Anakin. Reinserted Ahsoka/Sabine conversation on top of slow-moving T6 shuttle. Credits of Episode 8 are retained for the end of Part 2.
