Synopsis:

Aspect ratio conversion to 2.35:1 1 added scene. Altered Ending, New end credits. Supplemental alternative ending.

Intentions:

To alter the film's ending to bring it in more theorectically in-line with Richard. C. Sarafian's original idea. Also to replace the end credit scenes that I felt took the viewer behind the scenes of the shoot immediately at film's end, which in my view blew down any suspension of disbelief as though to be intentional and cynical. The ideas and techniques I developed for the ending gave rise to 2nd ending entirely, which really broke away from the timbre of the old - but it is supplied as a companion piece. My preferred subtle changes to the ending are what is in place for the film. It represents a subtle compromise between intentions and studio decisions that life long viewers should be able to embrace. Also, in the spirit of Special Editions, I included the extra scene from the UK theatrical cut.

Change List:

Simply made use of footage I found to implement my ideas - with the end credits it was straight forward titles and colour/SFX enhanced footage cut into place, which I did twice with differing results. Also I broke down one scene into a slow motion colour separation at the single frame scale with overlays and sound editing to resonate the context a little clearer. It remains a vastly unchanged movie classic, which I was conscious of whilst trying to keep my changes in keeping with the aesthetic. As far as the cropping of it's aspect ratio. It's a western to me. So it had to be done. The act of sliding the frame up and down to cover the narrative flow can be a little awkward, but pleasing when successful.
